TWIN PEAKS: EPISODE 8: MAY THE GIANT BE WITH YOU {SEASON TWO PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series that reveals David Lynch's sinister, surreal portrait of small-town life. In this episode, Agent Cooper is lying on the floor, bleeding, as a senile waiter shuffles around for several minutes. Agent Cooper receives a visit from a giant, who lists three predictions and then removes the FBI agent's ring. Other highlights include the following: Audrey eludes her father at One-Eyed Jacks; Agent Cooper recovers and learns he missed a shooting, a strangling, a suicide attempt, and the sawmill fire; Maddy has a disquieting vision; Leland sports a new hair color and performs a loony rendition of "Mairzy Doats and Dozy Doats"; Harry and Agent Cooper study evidence from the shooting in Leo's home, where Hawk finds a copy of Flesh World and Andy inadvertently uncovers cocaine and a pair of boots; Donna and Maddy try to shed their old identities; Leo is eliminated as a suspect in the death of Teresa Banks, whose death paralleled Laura's; James recalls Laura describing a "mystery man" named Bob; Andy and Lucy are ordered to search through a stack of Flesh World magazines for evidence; and Agent Cooper demands that Dr. Jacoby explain how he acquired half of Laura's heart necklace.

Plagued by awful hospital food such as bubbling creamed corn, hospital patients in Twin Peaks endure the following events: Dr. Jacoby recalls the stench of scorched engine oil when Jacques was strangled; Bobby and Shelly declare their mutual love; and Ed, with Nadine in a coma, tells Agent Cooper how he loves Norma but married Nadine out of spite. At the Double R diner, Bobby and his secretive father, Major Garland Briggs, try to overcome their communication gap, while Hank tries to do the same with Norma. Other highlights include the following: Agent Cooper summarizes their knowledge of Laura's final night; a weeping Andy chastises a smug Albert; Pete and Harry learn that Josie has left town, and Catherine, last seen in the fire, is missing; Hank updates Jerry and Ben on their role in the fire and Leo's shooting; Audrey is held against her will at One-Eyed Jacks; Donna volunteers to take over Laura's Meals on Wheels route; and Kirstin and Harriet Hayward play the piano for the Palmers and read a poem about Laura. Later, Leland sings "Get Happy" until he collapses. As the program concludes, Audrey begs Agent Cooper for help via telepathy, the giant appears in Agent Cooper's room with a reminder, and in the hospital, Ronette has a terrifying recollection of Laura's murder. Includes commercials.
