TWILIGHT ZONE, THE: A WORLD OF HIS OWN {FIRST SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this science fiction/fantasy anthology series hosted by Rod Serling. In this episode, playwright Gregory West is enjoying a relaxing tryst with his mistress when his wife Victoria returns home unexpectedly -- and spies the pair through the window. However, the "other woman" disappears myseriously in the time it takes Victoria to get inside the house. An enraged Victoria looks around vainly for a secret door and badgers Gregory into revealing his infidelity. Gregory explains that he has magically developed the ability to make his fictional characters come to life, simply by talking into his tape recorder. "Mary," his mistress, is merely the embodiment of all the qualities he admires in a woman. To get rid of her, all he has to do is destroy the section of audio tape on which she is described, a process he demonstrates to a disbelieving Victoria. Victoria attempts to flee, to live on an island alone, but Gregory conjures up a giant elephant to block her egress. Realizing he can never regain Victoria's good graces, Gregory informs her that she too is one of his imaginary constructs, and that she is beginning to develop too strong a will of her own. Peeved, Victoria tosses her own section of tape into the fire -- and immediately disappears. Gregory rushes to his microphone to bring her back to life -- but undergoes a change of heart. In a whimsical final sequence, "Twilight Zone" creator Rod Serling makes a rare on-camera appearance. Includes commercials and a promo.
