COP ROCK: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas which combine gritty realism and dramatic musical interludes to chronicle the events in a busy Los Angeles precinct. In this episode, the series premiere, an overburdened legal system breeds tragedy when freed crack dealer Tyrone Weeks kills a police officer less than twenty-four hours after his arrest in a violent raid. The same raid also snares drug addict Patricia Spence, who refuses Officer Vicki Quinn's offer of admittance to a rehab center for fear of losing her baby daughter. The married Quinn is further troubled by her attraction to her partner, Andy Campo. Spence tries to wheedle money from Captain John Hollander for information on Weeks, but her tips prove to be useless. Desperate for money, Spence sells her daughter to a baby broker for two hundred dollars. Weeks is eventually recaptured, but procedural mistakes made during his arrest again threaten to set him free. Tough cop Vincent LaRusso, in disgust, shoots Weeks and doctors the scene of the crime to give the impression he acted in self-defense. The episode also introduces the old-West-fixated Chief of Police Kendrick and the pragmatically corrupt Mayor Louise Plank. Songs on this episode include: "We Got the Power," "She's the One," "He's Guilty," and "Close Your Eyes." Commercials deleted.
