JIM HENSON'S "THE STORYTELLER": THE LUCK CHILD (TV)
Summary
One in this series of folk tales and legends narrated by "the Storyteller," featuring fantasy characters from Jim Henson's Creature Shop. In this episode, the Storyteller narrates a tale that demonstrates the power of luck and fate. An evil king hears of a prophesy that a "luck child" -- a seventh son of a seventh son -- will one day become king. The king, worried that his kingdom will be taken from him, sets out to destroy the baby. But, unbeknownst to the king, his attempt to kill the baby by throwing him off a rocky cliff into the icy sea is unsuccessful. Seventeen years later, while inspecting the harvest at the mill, the king meets a fair-haired boy whom the millers adopted after finding him washed up on shore when he was a baby. The king, suspecting that the boy, Lucky, is the same "luck child" whom he had tried to murder years before, sends the unwitting boy on an errand to the palace to meet his death. When this fails, the king sends Lucky to pull a feather from the Griffin, a monstrous man-eating beast. But the king under- estimates the power of prophesy and suffers the consequences of his folly when Lucky's good fortune foils his attempts to change destiny. Commercials deleted.
