TENDER IS THE NIGHT, EPISODE 1: 1917 (TV)
Summary
Part one of six. Considered British writer Dennis Potter's most elaborate adaptation, "Tender Is the Night" focuses on the mental anguish of a doomed romance between Dick Diver and Nicole Warren. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote two versions of the novel, and Potter followed the later version, which is told in chronological order and details how the obsessive love developed over time. Potter conceived of the work as "a fable imposed on a love story and since it's so clearly about Fitzgerald and Zelda, the love story is the dread of what's going to happen to him as a human being." This episode introduces Dr. Diver and Nicole Warren in Switzerland, in 1919. Continues with T:24165.
