I'LL FLY AWAY: ALL GOD'S CHILDREN (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas about Lilly Harper, a black domestic worker; Forrest Bedford, a white district attorney; and their respective families at the inception of the black civil rights movement in the South. In this episode, Lilly's daughter, Adelaine, tells John Morgan Bedford that a surprise party is being planned for Lilly's 30th birthday. After John Morgan makes birthday preparations, he is crushed when he learns that his own family will not be participating. Meanwhile, Forrest's advisers prepare him to deal with a controversy sure to haunt his campaign for district attorney: his wife's residence in a mental hospital. Elsewhere, a young black man who joins Nathaniel Bedford's wrestling team endures humiliating treatment from Coach Zollifer. However, when Nathaniel's friend Paul refuses to wrestle with the young man on racial grounds, Zollifer kicks Paul off the team. Commercials deleted.
