Summary

One in this dramatic anthology series. Based on Jean Shepherd's collection of wry, comic tales, "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters," this drama presents a story about Ralph, a perpetually dazed teenager. Set in the suburban Chicago of the 1950's, Ralph and his foible-ridden family pursue the American dream. When Josephine, a Polish girl from East Chicago, moves in next door, Ralph becomes hopelessly infatuated and befuddled. However, Ralph's ardor cools when he discovers that her family assumes that his amorous attentions are a prelude to marriage. Shepherd's narrative is a mock elegy filled with quirky insights, providing a surreal edge to the adventures of young Ralph. Includes a promo for the following week's "American Playhouse" production, "Story of a Marriage."
