Summary
One in this series of stock market and financial analysis programs hosted by Louis Rukeyser. This program, broadcast live from Tavern on the Green restaurant in New York City's Central Park, celebrates the twentieth anniversary of Wall Street Week. Dressed in formal attire, Rukeyser hosts a gathering of 350 guests, including many of the personalities who have appeared on "Wall $treet Week" in its first two decades. Rukeyser begins the program with a brief review of the week's financial news. The host then interviews a series of guests including Frank Cappielo, president of the Investment Advisory Firm; money management consultant Carter Randall; Stan West, former research director of the New York Stock Exchange; Peter Lynch of Fidelity Investments; and John Templeton, founder and principal of the Templeton Funds. The guests analyze the differences in investors and investments over the last two decades and offer general advice to investors. Highlights of the free-flowing exchange include the following: Cappiello preaches patience and warns investors against paying too much attention to fluctuations in the market; Randall decries Americans' lack of understanding of the capitalist system; West asserts that there are many more investors now than there were twenty years ago; and Lynch offers advice for senior citizens who need income but also wish to invest in the stock market. The guests make predictions about the future of finance and investments. As the program concludes, Rukeyser thanks the audience for their support throughout the show's history.
