MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD: MISTER ROGERS TALKS ABOUT FAMILIES {PUPPIES, ADOPTIVE FAMILIES} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of programs for young children, hosted by Fred Rogers, which uses puppets and music to teach patience and cooperation, while providing guidance to help children cope with feelings and frustrations. This program is part of a week-long series about families. In this episode, Mr. Rogers chats with his neighbor, Bob, and meets Bob's dog and her month-old puppies. Mr. Rogers also looks at a film of different families who live in the neighborhood. Next, the host imagines the latest developments in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, in which hand-puppet characters interact with humans in the mythical kingdom of King Friday XIII. Today, Bob Dog is sad when he finds out that he cannot go to Cousin Mary Owl's "cousin reunion" because he has no cousins. After Dr. Platypus teaches Anna Platypus that adopted families are just as real as other families, however, Anna offers to be Bob Dog's adopted cousin. Finally, Mr. Rogers reads aloud from the book "Exactly As I Am," which explains that people can love each other even if they are not exactly the same. This program is closed-captioned.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, 1999.
