MIAMI VICE: RITES OF PASSAGE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas concerning Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, undercover detectives for the Miami vice squad. In this episode, Tubbs's ex-girlfriend, NYPD detective Valerie Gordon, comes to Miami in search of her sister Diane, who has been missing for six months. She's just about to give up and head back to New York when Diane shows up on a videotape taken by the vice squad at a party thrown by David Traynor, a suspected murderer and pimp. Crockett and Tubbs attend Traynor's next gathering and ask Diane if she wants to come home with them. The woman, who is now a prostitute and drug addict, insists that she doesn't want to leave, so Tubbs removes her forcibly. Valerie puts her sister into rehab, but just as Diane is about to depart for home clean and sober, she makes the mistake of calling Traynor to say goodbye. The pimp assumes she's talking to the police and has her killed. An enraged Tubbs almost assaults Traynor during a police interrogation session, but Valerie insists that they not blow their case on a technicality. Just when it looks like the vice squad has found another way to nail Traynor, they find out that Valerie has taken the law into her own hands. Commercials deleted.
