Summary
Live coverage of the 1970 NBA All-Star Game. Chris Schenkel and Jack Twyman call the action from the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Going into this twentieth annual showcase between the Eastern and Western Divisions, the East leads the series 13-6. The program begins with a few word from Walter Kennedy, commissioner of the NBA. Next, recording stars Sandler &Young (Tony Sandler & Ralph Young) provide their rendition of the National Anthem. The players are introduced; they include, among others: Elgin Baylor, John Havlicek, Willis Reed, Lenny Wilkens, Connie Hawkins, Elvin Hayes, Jerry West, Dave DeBusschere, Walt "Clyde" Frazier, Oscar Robertson and rookie Lew Alcindor. The East sinks the first basket and subsequently dominates most of the first half, which ends 71-59.
During the halftime segment, Twyman interviews Wilt Chamberlain, who discusses his recent knee injury; Schenkel talks to former NBA star Bob Cousy; Red Auerbach analyzes the first half; and Schenkel profiles Tom and Dick Van Arsdale, identical twin All-Star players.
In the third quarter, the East continues to lead; with just under ten minutes left, the score is 73-67.
As the fourth quarter begins, the East continues to dominate the play, 106-85. They go on to win the game, 142-135. The program concludes as NBA Commissioner Walter Kennedy presents Willis Reed, who scored twenty-one points, with the MVP trophy. Reed is then briefly interviewed by Twyman.
