CRIME STORY: BLAST FROM THE PAST (TV)
Summary
One in this serialized police drama -- set for the initial episodes in Chicago, then in Las Vegas, during the early 1960s -- which traces the intersecting lives of three men: Agent Mike Torello, the hard-boiled, hair-triggered leader of a Justice Department task force; Ray Luca, a ruthless gangster overseeing a vast criminal empire; and David Abrams, a tenacious U.S. Attorney. In this episode, Torello takes charge when the new husband of his ex-wife Julie is kidnapped during a bank heist. Held hostage in a seedy cathouse in the desert and forced to attend to one of the critically wounded robbers, Dr. Newhouse realizes that his own survival is contingent on that of his dying patient. Empathizing with Julie's frustration over the bureaucratic mishandling of the case, Torello dismisses the better advice of his colleagues and travels to Tucson, where he finds himself at odds with the presiding detective, Lt. Bower, who seems more interested in capturing the media spotlight than in following leads. The task force's concurrent surveillance of a band of pornographers reveals a connection between Jack Holman, one of Luca's associates, and Cleary, the crazed ringleader of the bank robbers. As the search for Dr. Newhouse reaches a pinnacle, Torello finds that resurgent feelings for Julie may interfere with his judgment in the investigation. Commercials deleted.
