MARK RUSSELL LOOKS AT CAMPAIGN '76 (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedy/musical specials featuring political satirist Mark Russell. In this program, Russell entertains an audience-in-the-round at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Buffalo, NY, with irreverent song parodies and barbed monologues inspired by the 1976 presidential election. Russell introduces the program by drawing comparisons between that campaign and the upcoming 1988 elections. The routines, culled from segments of "The Mark Russell Comedy Special," which originally aired in 1975 and 1976, poke fun at the primary process and lampoon such candidates as Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, Jerry Brown, and Jimmy Carter, among others. Additionally, Russell conducts an audience poll in which he measures the applause generated by the mention of each candidate's name.
