MARK RUSSELL'S '92 (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedy/musical specials featuring political satirist Mark Russell. In this program, culled from segments of the "Mark Russell Comedy Special" which aired in 1992, Russell entertains an audience-in-the-round at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Buffalo, NY with irreverent song parodies and barbed monologues inspired by current events. Topics of satire include the following: President George Bush's lack of connection to the real world, as evidenced by the disorientation he experienced during a New Hampshire primary visit to a supermarket when he ecountered a common price scanner; candidate Bill Clinton's womanizing; the time Bush vomited on the Prime Minister of Japan during a state dinner; dirty campaigning; the Elvis Presley postage stamp; the furor over Vice President Dan Quayle's attack on television single mother "Murphy Brown"; independent candidate H. Ross Perot's tendency to oversimplify complex issues; the Republican and Democratic conventions; right-wing talk radio and Rush Limbaugh; public concern over the ability of Perot's vice-presidential running mate, retired Navy Vice Admiral James D. Stockdale; Russell's preference for non-jogging presidents; the media's pro-Clinton bias; the impending arrival of the Clinton family in Washington; Sen. Bob Packwood's appearance before the "Senate Select Comittee on Groping and Grabbing"; and predictions for the New Year.
Cataloging of this program was made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
