TV NATION {TV NATION DAY, MILLENNIUM, PRISON ADVISOR, HAULIN,' BOSNIA} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedic magazine series hosted by beefy socialist Michael Moore. On this program, the topics include people who believe the end of the world is near, a prison test for politicians and business executives, the last tour of Communism, and efforts to stop the fighting in Bosnia. Also, the celebration of "TV Nation Day" is official and the small town of Fishkill, New York, leads the festivities. Karen Duffy, better known as MTV's "Duff," goes in search of the "TV Nation Day" baby and is named the grand marshall of the parade. In the first segment, Louis Theroux visits with individuals and groups who feel the end of the world is drawing near. Subjects include Harold Camping, who hosts a radio show and a television program; the Church of Jesus Christ Christian in Montana, which proclaims that every race will receive its own territory after the destruction; and the Unarius Academy of Science in California, which has purchased fifty acres of land for an alien space ship to use as a landing area when aliens arrive to take over the earth. In the next segment, ex-convict Frank Sweeney helps politicians prepare for their stay in prison. In the next segment, a truck with a hammer-and-sickle painted on the side and loaded with Communist Party paraphernalia heads out on a journey through the United States. Truck driver Al Wallach makes some friends and enemies along the way. In the last segment, Moore does his best to stop the fighting in Bosnia. He goes through his own negotiations with the representaives of the warring factions, who explain exactly happened to the former Yugoslavia using a pizza pie as a visual aid. In a last-ditch effort, Moore tries to persuade the ambassadors to call each other. Commercials deleted. (Network affiliation varies; series also aired on Fox in 1995.)
