The first news item looks at the consequences of children owning realistic looking toy guns. Highlights of this segment include the following: a creator of toy guns and his children explain why youngsters like to play with toy guns; Linda Ellerbee tells the story of a thirteen-year-old who was killed by a police officer who mistook the boy's toy shotgun for a real gun; a girl, who lives in Brooklyn where the incident occured, gives her solution to the problem; an officer explains how cops are trained to use their weapons and places toy guns next to real guns to show how similar they are; the publisher of "Kids Press" discusses why toy guns should be banned; the president of Kay Bee Toys explains what her company is doing with realistic toy guns; and various children give their opinions on the topic. The second segment explores the workings of a tree harvesting business in North Carolina. Children and their fathers, who get trees ready for the Christmas season, explain the difference between a seed and a seedling, why there are always plenty of trees available for decorating, how the trees are cared for, and the importance of trees. The final segment explores the joint achievements of Neil Young and the president of Lionel Toy Trains. Highlights of this segment include: a look at the train set Neil Young built for his son, Ben, who has cerebral palsy; Neil Young's daughter explains how cerebral palsy affects a person; the president of Lionel Toy Trains discusses how his company and Neil Young came to create toy train sets that could be used by disabled children; Peggy Young comments on the train set; and Ben and other disabled youngsters are shown enjoying the wonders of the train set. Also included is a brief look at an absurd error made by the I.R.S. and how video games are created. Commercials deleted.
