MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO SCREENING SERIES, THE:
THE WORLD OF HANNA-BARBERA, PACKAGE 14: THE
FANTASTIC FOUR AND THE SUPERFRIENDS

Summary

Prepared for The Museum of Television & Radio screening series "The World of Hanna-Barbera," this compilation features episodes of "The Fantastic Four" and "The Superfriends." In the first part, "The Fantastic Four in the Three Predictions of Dr. Doom," the evil Dr. Doom tells the Fantastic Four what he plans to do to them. The superheroes are scheduled to receive honorary memberships in the Conference of Peaceful Nations and don't want Dr. Doom to think he's gotten the better of them. Fulfilling his first prediction, Dr. Doom captures the Invisible Girl. He then reveals to the conference what he has planned for the world if the Fantastic Four don't give in to him. Just as Dr. Doom suspected, the rest of the superheroes attempt to rescue the Invisible Girl. Dr. Doom proceeds to make good on the rest of his predictions by taking the Thing's strength away and capturing Mr. Fantastic and the Human Torch. Just as Dr. Doom thinks he's won and proceeds with his scheme, the Fantastic Four escape his trap and foil his plans. In the first of three episodes of "The Superfriends," entitled "The Superfriends and Mxyzptlk's Revenge," a mysterious doorway appears in the Hall of Justice and sucks Batman and Superman through it. They are confronted by Mxyzptlk, who has created a fifth dimension and taken away their powers. Superman knows the only way to stop Mxyzptlk is to get him to say his name backwards. Mxyzptlk sends Superman to work on a farm and Batman to live upside down for the next fifty-years. Superman tricks Mxyzptlk, and the superheroes return to the Hall of Justice. In the second episode, entitled "Roller Coaster," a gang is putting a future member through his initiation ritual, which is to ride a condemned roller coaster at the amusement park. Hearing the screams coming from the roller coaster, The Wonder Twins realize someone is in danger. They summon Atom from the Hall of Justice to help. As the only way to stop the roller coaster is by turning off the power, Atom must make himself small enough to fit inside the fuse box before the car runs off the tracks. In the final episode, entitled "Once Upon a Poltergeist," Gotham City is suffering what appears to be an earthquake. However, Apache Chief senses a presence that Batman and Robin don't understand. Apache Chief realizes that a Native American spirit is angry because the city is built on an ancient burial ground. He must get in touch with the spirit and and locate the real burial ground.
