TOMORROW WITH TOM SNYDER {HENRY MILLER} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night topical interview programs hosted by Tom Snyder. On this 1977 program, Snyder interviews American novelist Henry Miller, who discusses this thoughts on love, writing, pornography, his childhood in Brooklyn, his mother, poverty, aging, and death. Early in the interview, Miller uses a profanity which Snyder assures him will be edited from the broadcast. Miller offers thoughts on why his fans are a nuisance; why he loves Japanese women; why "marriage is the death of love"; his first, disastrous love affair in high school which still causes him anguish; his subsequent love affair with a woman "old enough to be (his) mother"; the difference between something being "obscene" and "pornographic"; his marvelous childhood in Brooklyn and his hellish adolescence; how he caused his mother to contract blood poisoning by urging her to slice off a wart with a knife; his unfulfilled childhood desire to own a pony; why he dislikes his mother; the spectre of death; his worries about poverty; when he realized he was a writer; and his tome "Tropic of Cancer" which he describes as his "breakthrough novel," acknowledging that it was considered a "dirty book." Includes commercials, promos, and public service announcements.
