THIS IS AMERICA, CHARLIE BROWN: THE NASA SPACE STATION (TV)

Summary

One in this eight-part miniseries which stars the "Peanuts" characters as they are transported into the past and future to participate in various events in American history. In this episode, part four of eight, the kids are preparing their models of space stations for a contest at school, which causes Linus to dream that he and his friends are the first people to live and work in a space station. The crew consists of Lucy, as the commander; Snoopy, as the operator; Linus, as the scientist; Peppermint Patty, as the exercise coordinator; and Charlie Brown, as the chief cook. Also, Sally conducts on-board experiments, Pig Pen is in charge of experiments outside the station, and Franklin is the social scientist studying behavioral patterns. As the commander, Lucy begins the tour of the space station and explains what each area is used for. Linus demonstrates an experiment he's doing with a bird flying in zero gravity. Lucy is outraged at the experiment -- considering the bird is Woodstock who can barely fly on Earth. Franklin begins to fear that a mutiny may occur because of Lucy's attitude, and he also gives his analysis of how the crew is doing after thirty days in space. While the crew is communicating with mission control, a meteorite strikes the space station damaging one of the solar panels, which will need immediate repair. Snoopy volunteers for the job, but Charlie Brown won't let his dog venture out into space alone. Snoopy begins to drift away from the space station and Linus comes up with a way to get Snoopy back. His plan works and they fix the solar panel. Their ninety days in space are up and Linus begins to pack up his gear, but can't find his blanket. Lucy tells him she threw it out into space and Linus is greatly shaken up, but then wakes up, realizing it was only a dream, and watches Snoopy win the school contest. Commercials deleted.
