TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON, THE {ELIZABETH TAYLOR, MICHAEL DOUGLAS} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, Carson's guests are actress Elizabeth Taylor and actor Michael Douglas. In Carson's opening monologue he comments on the following topics, among others: President George Bush being out of touch with the common people; the varying campaign styles of Jerry Brown, Bill Clinton, and Tom Harkin; NASA wanting to send a married couple on a mission to study sex in space; a live liposuction demonstration on "Geraldo"; and lining up big stars for the final programs of "The Tonight Show." Carson then takes questions from the studio audience. Carson's first guest, Elizabeth Taylor, appears on this show for the first time and discusses the following topics, among others: her upcoming sixtieth birthday and how she and actress Grace Kelly celebrated their fortieth birthdays; the public's fascination with her; her current marriage to Larry Fortensky and how they met; how she always marries men who are a certain age; her discomfort working in front of live audiences; her friendship with singer Michael Jackson; a story about studio head Louis B. Mayer during her childhood; the changes in morality in Hollywood over the years; her hatred of tabloid journalism and "kiss-and-tell" books; and the best gift she ever received. Next they are joined by actor Michael Douglas, who comments on famous personalities he would like to meet; his first scheduled appearance on "The Tonight Show"; his status as a second generation actor and the difference between his background and that of his father, actor Kirk Douglas; his latest film, "Radio Flyer" (followed by a clip); and the forty-seven seconds deleted from the film, "Basic Instinct." Due to lack of time, the scheduled third guest, singer Linda Hopkins does not appear on this program. Includes commercials and promos.
