WALLENBERG: A HERO'S STORY {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
Part one of this two-part docudrama about the heroism of Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who saved the lives of hundreds of Jews during World War II. In part one, Wallenberg accepts the title of Swedish diplomat in order that he may go to Budapest and prevent extermination of innocent Jews. His plan is to distribute passes making all the Jews in Hungary honorary Swedes so that they will be under the Swedish government's protection from the Germans. When he arrives at his destination, however, Wallenberg is shocked to discover the difficulty involved in putting his plan into action, not to mention the atrocities happening around him. Then, he meets the wife of the powerful Baron Kemeny, who will become the Foreign Minister to Hungary, and believes that she may hold the key to saving hundreds of lives. Meanwhile, members of the Jewish underground decide to create forgeries Wallenberg's Swedish passes as a way of cutting through red tape. Commercials deleted. Continues with T:43656.
