ANDY WARHOL'S TV {ROB LOWE, JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT}
(TV)

Summary

One in this series of talk/interview programs, loosely adapted from Andy Warhol's Interview magazine. The program begins with "New Faces," a segment introducing new talent, in which model Tery Ferman tells a story about one of her unsuccessful auditions. In "A Few Minutes with Rob Lowe," Lowe comments on his love life and recalls a lesson he learned from Francis Ford Coppola about the nature of filmmaking. Next, Alexandra Condon interviews visual artist James Brown at his solo show in the Tony Shafrazi Gallery. Topics discussed include: his good fortune in moving to New York and breaking into the art scene; major influences on his art; and symbols that can be found in his paintings. In another "New Faces" segment, graffiti artist LAII talks about entering the world of graffiti art and his collaborative project with artist Keith Haring. The next portion of the program is interspersed with conversations between Warhol and artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Warhol and Basquiat introduce Area, a club and art gallery that changes with a monthly theme; Area co-owners Darius Azari, Christopher and Eric Goode, and Shawn Hausman discuss the origins of their club and the challenges of running it. A third "New Faces" segment features a monologue by Joanna Fields, also known as "The Beverly Hills Brat." Finally, Lester Persky interviews C. David Heyman, author of Barbara Hutton's biography "Poor Little Rich Girl," about the impact of Hutton's inheritance and her many marriages.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, 1999.
