EZ STREETS: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The pilot in this series of dramas about an intense, straight-arrow police officer, a psychotic and ruthless mafia boss, and a reformed ex-convict living parallel lives on opposite sides of the tracks. In the pilot, Danny Rooney is released from prison after serving a three-year sentence for a crime he did not commit. Offering him a ride is his boyhood friend, Jimmy Murtha, the notorious leader of the city's crime gang. Still, Rooney plans on avoiding bad influences and reuniting with his estranged wife and daughter. Meanwhile, Detective Cameron Quinn witnesses his partner getting gunned down in a botched sting operation. When ten thousand dollars from the sting turns up missing, Quinn falls under investigation for corruption. Also, Murtha's nemesis, Michael "Fivers" Dugan, hopes the drug-addicted mayor's plans to rebuild the city will drive out Murtha the crime boss. When Rooney is fired from his legitimate job, Murtha entices him to become his driver and promises that the job entails nothing illegal. Captain Geary, head of the Intelligence Division, brings Det. Quinn aboard to topple Murtha, hoping Quinn will pose as a corrupt cop in order to monitor Murtha and his illegal operations. Quinn finds a mysterious key on his late patner's ring of keys, and also learns valuable information about his partner's murder from Sammy Feathers, a snitch who overheard Murtha bragging about killing a police officer. Despite Murtha's suspicions about Quinn, Murtha's lawyer and lover, Theresa Conners, vouches for him. In an apparent attempt to find the mysterious key, Fivers's restaurant is blown up and Quinn's apartment is ransacked. Knowing someone in the police department wants it, Quinn must find the culprit by speaking to his father, a former cop who was corrupt. Despite his hatred toward his father, Quinn acquires information that may be valuable. Meanwhile, Rooney is anguished over not being able to see his daughter and is determined to live free from crime. When Quinn hears that a snitch was found dead, he is shocked to learn the identity of the victim. Commercials deleted.
