EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere of this comedy series about a quirky Italian-American family living on Long Island, headed by sarcastic sportswriter Ray and his beleaguered wife Debra.
In this episode, Debra says she does not want a big birthday party and that she would prefer to spend the day alone with Ray. But Debra's request may be hard to fulfill, since his parents, Marie and Frank, and his brother Robert tend to drop by unannounced from across the street. Ray suggests that Debra take a night off and go out with a friend while he watches the kids. Reluctantly, Debra leaves as Ray handles the child-rearing, until his friend Leo convinces him to go out for pizza while Marie watches the sleeping children. As soon as Ray leaves, Frank and Robert drop by and proceed to wake up the kids. Ray returns home and panics because Debra will be home soon, the kids are awake, and his family is over. Ultimately, Debra says that Ray should just tell everyone that they want to spend her birthday alone. But their plan for a passionate evening alone backfires. Commercials deleted.
