ABC MINISERIES: MURDER ONE: DIARY OF A SERIAL KILLER {PART 2 OF 3} (TV)

Summary

Continued from T:48792. Part two of three. One in this serial drama series focusing, in its second season, on three major cases of attorney Jimmy Wyler and his associates. In the second of three segments in this miniseries, Jimmy and his team continue their efforts to build a defense for Clifford Banks, the notorious "Street Sweeper" serial killer who set off on a mission to kill as many convicted murderers and rapists as he could before he was caught. Jimmy finds out that the policeman who originally arrested Banks acted illegally when he searched Banks' van without probable cause -- so the entire case against Banks begins to crumble. Jimmy is torn over the development, but he realizes that he has to act in the best interests of his client and he argues that the entire case should be dismissed. "Every other piece of evidence in this case, your honor," he explains, "is fruit from the poisoned tree." Banks is hardly helping his own case, however. Frustrated that his new pen-pal wife can't use his money (earmarked for his mounting legal bills) to buy a new Lexus, he becomes irate and threatens to sabotage the case by confessing everything and threatening to kill again. Jimmy tries to explain to Banks that his new wife is a liar and a gold-digger, but Banks is too furious to listen. Jimmy is also forced to deal with the behavior of the Hollywood movie producer who has purchased the rights to Clifford's story, Gary Blondo. Blondo, who talks in stilted showbiz argot and wants Brad Pitt to play the part of the Street Sweeper, has been threatening the case in his own way -- by sleeping with juror number eleven. When he is arrested for trespassing in the jury's sequestered quarters, Jimmy is obliged to bail him out and give him a lecture. Meanwhile, Jimmy is carrying on an affair of his own with Justine, his second chair in the trial. Although the two try to keep their professional distance during the trial, they keep slipping, and co-workers are starting to become suspicious. Includes commercials and promos. Continues with T:48787.
