LOST IN SPACE: BLAST OFF INTO SPACE {SECOND SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of science fictions programs about the Robinsons, a family of space colonists from Earth who have become hopelessly "lost in space." In this episode, massive earthquakes threaten to destroy a planet's core. While John tinkers with the ship so they can leave the planet, Dr. Smith finishes erecting a statue of himself, which collapses when another violent quake hits. Will and Dr. Smith are surprised to find a man emerging from a crater in the planet's surface. Amazed, Dr. Smith learns that this man, Mr. Nerim, has been the cause of the earthquakes. Smith and Will venture down to Nerim's diamond mining operation in the planet's core; the diamonds are used to make a substance called cosmonium. When Smith realizes that cosmonium consists of sun particles, he excitedly agrees to keep Nerim's operation a secret and plans to become partners with him. Nerim knows that the planet is crumbling due to the mining operation, but he assures Will that the planet will be safe. As John and Don finish fixing the ship, Will and Dr. Smith return with news about Nerim and his assertion that the planet is fine. Covertly, Smith steals a thruster control from the ship in order to trade it for some cosmonium. Once the exchange is made, Nerim leaves the planet as it begins to shake more violenty then ever. Then, after a bottle of cosmonium breaks against Smith's statue, the stone doppelganger comes to life and chases Dr. Smith and Will. Once John has rescued the pair, the ship begins to take off as the planet bursts into flames around them, yet they cannot escape the planet's gravity. Smith then confesses that he traded the ship's vital thruster control for cosmonium. Commercials deleted.
