Summary
The premiere in this comedy series about four female students learning about the facts of life from a surrogate mother.
In this episode, Mrs. Edna Garrett has left the Drummond household in Manhattan to accept a job as housemother at the prestigious Eastland School for Girls near Peekskill, New York. As Edna helps the girls decorate their dormitory for the Harvest Fair, Mr. Drummond drops by with his children, Arnold, Willis, and Kimberly, who make futile pleas for Edna to return home. Edna then chats with Mr. Bradley, the new headmaster of Eastland, who moves the girls' curfew up to midnight, much to the distress of long-time Eastland teacher Miss Mahoney.
When Molly nominates a tomboy named Cindy for Harvest Queen, the spoiled and glamorous Blair Warner, a sure contender for the crown, feels threatened. After Cindy hugs another girl, Blair implies that the tomboy might be a lesbian. Consequently, Cindy drops out of the competition and questions whether she is attracted to boys. Edna teaches Cindy and Blair that judging from appearances is unfair and inaccurate. Blair apologizes and Cindy enters the competition. The Drummonds join them for a reception to celebrate the crowning of the Harvest Queen. Commercials deleted. This program is closed-captioned.
