HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: ALL IS BRIGHT (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic police series about a department of reflective homicide detectives in Baltimore, Maryland. In this episode, Detectives Gharty and Ballard investigate the murder of Phil Longley, who was apparently killed with a laundry detergent bottle in a laundromat. Meanwhile, Munch's ex-wife, Gwen, arrives in town and informs him that her mother has died, a person whom Munch never liked. Dr. Cox's autopsy reveals that Phil was HIV-positive, and Gharty and Ballard wonder whether a jilted former lover may have acted out of revenge. Phil's parents report that he had many girlfriends, but never anyone serious. Meanwhile, Kellerman worries about the Mahoney shooting since Falsone's interest in the case is not subsiding, and Munch helps Gwen plan her mother's funeral. Phil's mother mentions that one of her son's girlfriends, Rita, knew he was HIV-positive, and that she may be suffering from health problems as well. Gharty and Ballard interview Rita, but they disagree as to whether she may have killed Phil out of revenge. In the meantime, Munch and Gwen chat amicably until Munch makes a remark about one of Gwen's former lovers. Ultimately, Rita admits that she murdered Phil because he "killed" her first. Also, Kellerman learns that Georgia Ray has a videotape of him shooting Mahoney, indicating that his career will be destroyed when she releases the tape to the media. And Ballard, disturbed by the outcome of the case, wants to inform the Phil's other girlfriends of his HIV status. At the bar, everyone is celebrating the holiday season when Munch delivers an impromptu but heartfelt eulogy for Gwen's mother; and, Bayliss and Cox share an intimate moment. Commercials deleted.
