FERNWOOD TONIGHT {FERNWOOD 2 NIGHT}: COMEDY SALES TECHNIQUES (TV)
Summary
One in this series of satirical, mock talk shows set in Fernwood, Ohio, hosted by the smarmy Barth Gimble and his dim-witted sidekick Jerry Hubbard.
Barth hosts this installment while struggling with a nasty head cold, which he incurred during an all-night golf game. Barth's first guest is Elliot Tubbs, a former class clown turned insurance agent, who uses hand puppets to convey to small children the unavoidable reality of their parents' eventual deaths. Next, Happy Kyne joins the panel to discuss a promotion that his Bun 'n' Run fast-food franchise is airing to help shut-ins. The Dunbar sisters accompany Kyne in a demonstration of the new Bun 'n' Run jingle. Finally, Barth concludes the show with an emotional eulogy for talk show host Mike Douglas, despite the fact that Douglas is still alive. Commercials deleted.
(Martin Mull and Fred Willard reprised their roles as Barth Gimble and Jerry Hubbard in "America Tonight," telecast in syndication in 1978.)
