ALLY MCBEAL: THEME OF LIFE (TV)

Summary

One in this whimsical comedy/drama series about the personal and professional misadventures of Ally McBeal, a neurotic young lawyer living in Boston. In this episode, Ally takes a kickboxing class as a method of relieving stress and anxiety, but she balks when John recommends that she visit his psychologist. Ally feels overmatched, however, as she defends a doctor who used a pig liver to keep a patient alive during an organ transplant. Complicating matters, Ally sees Fish flirting with Attorney General Janet Reno and wonders whether to tell Fish's girlfriend, Judge Whipper Cone; later, Whipper smells the attorney general's perfume on Fish's finger. Ally and Georgia agree to a kickboxing match, believing they can vent their jealousies and extract revenge over each other's mutual feelings for Billy. And Ally is surprised by the unconventional behavior of John's therapist, Dr. Tracey: the doctor tells Ally to search for her own inspirational theme song, which will calm her when times are tough. Ally and Georgia finally meet in the ring as Billy watches nervously: the women battle intensely and collapse from exhaustion as Billy rushes into the ring, uncertain of whom to comfort. Ally and Georgia, both extremely sore, begin to realize the meaning of the kickboxing fight and their true feelings about one another. And as the trial concludes, Ally allows John to deliver the closing argument to improve her client's chance of winning. Commercials deleted.
