FASHION: THE BETSEY JOHNSON STORY {ANDY WARHOL'S
TV} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of talk/interview programs, loosely
adapted from Andy WarholÕs interview magazine. This
program looks at the career of fashion designer Betsey
Johnson. Topics discussed include the following:
Johnson's high-school experience; the contribution of
her Connecticut upbringing to her appreciation of
off-the-wall ideas; her current dislike of most of her
original designs from the 1960s; her first involvement
in the fashion industry; her view of the art-fashion
industry during the 1960s as a conglomerate of fashion
staples; her early stereotyping in the industry; her
security in her work; her personal life; clothing style
in the 1970s; her view that her designs should be
comfortable; and the importance of music in her life and
work. Interspersed throughout the program are scenes of
a fashion show featuring JohnsonÕs clothing lines.
(Network varies; this series was telecast on Manhattan
Cable TV from 1981 to 1984 and on the Madison Square
Garden Network in 1983.)
Cataloging of this program was made possible by the
Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, 1999.
