Summary

Episode four in this six-episode mini-series about the interconnected lives of people residing in San Francisco in 1977, continuing from the mini-series "Tales of the City." In episode four, Anna Madrigal reveals her transsexuality to her tenants and adds that her name is an anagram. Other highlights include the following: Brian has another rendezvous with the voyeur; Mary Ann recalls how she burned a file that a former tenant, Norman, compiled about Mrs. Madrigal; Michael and Jon watch a television show about Anita Bryant's crusade against gays; at the wholesale flower sellers, the amnesiac Burke vomits when he spots a man with a hair transplant; Michael is struck by a rare form of paralysis and is hospitalized; Frannie discovers the secrets of Pinus women's club; Beauchamp verbally abuses and fires Mary Ann, and confirms plans to have his pregnant wife DeDe beaten; Jon rejects Beauchamp's advances and clarifies his love for Michael; Bruno and Douchebag plan their attack on DeDe; Michael learns his parents have joined Bryant's anti-homosexual campaign and sends them a letter announcing he is gay and proud; DeDe and D'orothea go on a date to a Junior League fashion show, unaware they are being stalked by Douchebag; and Mary Ann receives a dire phone call about an event that alters everyone's plans.
