AS THE WORLD TURNS {BABY JOHNNY DIES} (TV)
Summary
One in this long-running daytime serial, set in the midwestern town of Oakdale. In this episode, several characters' lives hang in the balance: David is suffering renal failure; Barbara lies in a coma after delivering Baby Johnny, who is also in critical condition; Lou is in surgery; and Holden is a suspect as Molly's assailant and the arsonist of the church fire. After the church fire, David is left with injuries that might require a kidney transplant. Neither Emily nor Lucinda is eligible to give him one, so Lucinda goes to see James in prison to find out if he is a potential donor. Through the search for a donor, Emily, David, and Lucinda all get some surprising news about David's parentage. At the hospital, baby Johnny is fighting for his life with two collapsed lungs and internal bleeding while John looks on helplessly, regretting his decision to have the baby removed from Barbara so prematurely. Lou is also undergoing surgery, while Camille and her mother wait anxiously with Lou's son; and although he comes through the operation well, it is still not clear whether he will regain all his functions. Meanwhile, Hal comes to question Holden about his altercations with Molly, and to request a blood test. As an attorney, Tom urges Holden to be cautious, but Holden is adamant about his innocence and open to all questioning and tests. However, it appears as if Holden might be bluffing. Commercials deleted.
