SOPRANOS, THE: 46 LONG (TV)

Summary

One in this darkly comic, dramatic series centering around the crime empire and family life of Tony Soprano, a modern-day Mafia boss. As the episode begins, Tony and his pals are lamenting the fact that the power and security of the mob is not what it used to be. When Christopher and his friend Brendan rob a truck full of electronic equipment, all seems well -- until they learn that the trucking company pays protection money to Uncle Junior. Christopher heeds Tony's advice to cease hijacking trucks in the future, but Brendan, not part of the clan, moves ahead on his own and stages a holdup, with disastrous results. Meanwhile, Tony uses his influence and muscle to retrieve a car that was stolen from Tony, Jr.'s science teacher. Also, when Tony's mother, Livia, panics over a grease fire in her kitchen, he hires a woman to look after her, but Livia's irascible disposition drives the aide away. After she accidentally hits a neighbor with her car, the family decides that Livia cannot live alone, so they bring her to a luxurious retirement community against her vehement objections. The episode concludes as Tony sits with his psychiatrist, unable to confront the guilt and anger he feels toward his mother.
