AS THE WORLD TURNS {THE CRUISE SHIP SINKS DURING MOLLY AND DAVID'S WEDDING} (TV)
Summary
One in this long-running daytime serial, set in the midwestern town of Oakdale. In this episode, disaster strikes during Molly and David's wedding on a cruise ship. When the time comes for the couple to take their vows, David refuses to marry Molly, explaining that he knows that she has conspired against him with Lucinda. Molly tries to convince David that she is marrying him for love and that she intended to deceive Lucinda, but Lucinda maintains that the marriage was simply part of a devious plan. Meanwhile, Holden has discovered that Cameron has set an explosion in the engine room and that the ship is quickly losing power and filling with water. Holden wants to repair the damage and warn the passengers, but a fight breaks out that prevents Holden and Kirk from working on the engine or alerting the crew. Also on board the ship, Georgia confronts Samantha, explaining that Georgia's grandmother told her from her death bed that Samantha was her biological mother. Although Samantha initially tries to deny Georgia's claims, the true story eventually comes out. Both Hal and Camille find themselves worrying about their lovers who are still on land in Oakdale. Hal is particularly worried because Carly has been spending a great deal of time with Jack. Hal does not know (although the viewer does) that Carly has proclaimed her love for Jack; she intends to pursue a relationship with him. Finally, David makes his way down to the ship's hold. He helps Holden and Kirk alert the staff of the engine explosion, and the entire ship is evacuated. Most of the wedding party members manage to escape into lifeboats. As the ship fills with water, however, a few passengers remain stranded in remote areas, and some brave souls continue to search for any missing people. Commercials deleted.
