Summary

The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, Mary begins her stay in Fernwood Hospital's psychiatric ward, trying to be a plant; she finds that being a person is fraught with too many dangers and difficulties. She begins to feel better, however, when she realizes that she simply has been temporarily overwhelmed by personal problems, and she is proud to have given respectability to the cause of mental illness by becoming unglued on a popular television show.
