Summary
The second of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, Annie announces that she has decided to stay in Fernwood for a while. This news worries Loretta, who has taken note of Tom's attraction to the widow. Literary figure Gore Vidal comes to the hospital to interview Mary for a book about her life, which he predicts will symbolize the emptiness and broken promises, as well as the hope and survival, of America. Charlie admits to Loretta that he feels that her new song is a public insult to his manhood, and she suggests that he try hypnosis to come to grips with his sexual dysfunction. Commercials deleted.
