MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN {EPISODE 231} {HEATHER'S NUNSENSE} (TV)

Summary

The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, as Merle lies in his hospital bed, he unsuccessfully tries to convince Wanda that he did not try to commit suicide. In response, Wanda arranges to have Clete Mizenheimer interview him in order to assure the citizens of Fernwood that he is simply having his annual checkup in an effort to promote preventative health care. Mary becomes very involved with her job at the plant, planning all kinds of improvements and trying to bond with the guys, but her fellow workers are not too cooperative. Tom and Mary are distressed when Sister Theresa and Sister Beulah arrive unannounced from a convent in response to Heather's letter informing them of her desire to be a nun. When Mary visits the gypsy campsite, she informs Pat that Little Garth's grandmother has taken custody of him and sent him back to military school. This news breaks Pat's heart; therefore, she decides to follow the gypsies because she thinks their carefree nomadic lifestyle can help her forget her grief. Commercials deleted.
