FREAKS AND GEEKS: THE GARAGE DOOR (TV)
Summary
One in this series about two distinct groups of high schoolers in 1980 Michigan -- the Freaks, hoodish outcasts-by-choice who love heavy metal, cars, and defying authority; and the Geeks, physically and socially underdeveloped kids who revel in science fiction and impersonations of their comedy idols. This episode centers largely around the themes of infidelity and loyalty. On the Freaks side, the themes are explored comedically as Kim Kelly takes objection to Daniel Desario's desire to take her on a date to the Laser Palace -- a place at which he once cheated on her. On the Geeks side, the themes become a bit more complex as Sam runs into Neal's father with another woman at the mall and is torn between keeping his loyalty to his friends' "nobody keeps any secrets" credo and sparing Neal's feelings. Meanwhile, the uber-sarcastic Ken develops an enormous crush on a tuba player in the marching band, and he pleads with Lindsay to ask the musician out on a date for him. When she accepts, they decide to join Daniel, Kim, Lindsay, and Nick at the Laser Palace. When Bill prematurely breaks the news to Neal that Sam has seen his father with another woman, Neal is at first indignant and disbelieving. He becomes suspicious, however, when he stumbles across an unfamiliar garage door opener. Neal decides to go through the neighborhood trying the opener on all the local garages, and he recruits his friends to help him. At the Laser Palace, Kim continues to harass Daniel for bringing her there while Lindsay continues to act rude to Nick (in an attempt to avoid leading him on), and the typically ice-cold Ken becomes a bundle of nerves when he realizes he doesn't know how to behave on a date. Commercials deleted.
