LOST IN SPACE: ALL THAT GLITTERS (TV)
Summary
One in this series of science fiction programs about the Robinsons, a family of space colonists from Earth who have become hopelessly "lost in space." In this episode, Penny and Dr. Smith are picking berries when they encounter a man in need of help. He turns out to be an intergalactic burgler named Ohan, on the run from the law. He accepts a shower and clean clothes and then disappears. Later, two hairy beasts show up with a man who introduces himself as Security Officer Bolix of the Galaxy Law Enforcement Agency. Bolix says they are looking for Ohan; he questions the Robinsons and searches their spaceship. He then reveals that Ohan stole something of great value before he was incarcerated, something that Bolix is hoping to recover. Outside, Penny reveals to Dr. Smith that Ohan left her with something to keep for him, a small device. Dr. Smith takes it and begins to ask questions about what it can offer him. A responding voice comes out of thin air, but before it gives any serious information it warns, "Use what you shall receive with wisdom; do not let greed be your master." The device leads Dr. Smith to a hidden box with a large metal ring inside. After some initial confusion, Dr. Smith makes the dazzling discovery that the wearer of the ring, which is actually a necklace, has the platinum touch -- that is, everything he touches will turn to platinum. Dr. Smith is ecstatic. Ohan comes back that night to reclaim his device, but Smith makes up a lie about not having it. Loath to give up the necklace, Smith double-crosses Ohan, turning him over to Bolix. Dr. Smith thinks he is going to be rich and happy, but his platinum touch turns out to be a curse. He can no longer eat, sleep on a sleeping bag, or touch anyone . . . because everything he touches turns to platinum. After Smith turns Penny to platinum accidentally, the powerful necklace takes pity on him and allows him to escape his greed. Penny is brought back to life, the necklace is left behind, and Ohan is taken into custody. Commercials deleted.
