FIRING LINE: TWO FRIENDS TALK: RONALD REAGAN AND WILLIAM F. BUCKLEY, JR. {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
Continued from T:60609. Part two of two. One in this talk/interview series hosted by William F. Buckley, Jr. In this edition, Buckley is joined by President Ronald Reagan for a discussion of Reagan's presidency as described in Reagan's autobiography, "An American Life." Buckley begins the program with an introduction of Reagan and a few comments on Reagan's book. His questions then prompt Reagan to discuss the following topics, among others: his desire to see the establishment of a bipartisan commission to preside over redistricting and eliminate gerrymandering; the events surrounding his visit to the graves of German soldiers; the reasons for the collapse of the Soviet Union; Reagan's admiration for the courage of Mikhail Gorbachev in the face of the communist government that had appointed him; the dismantling of the Soviet Union's pledge of expansionism; the former president's desire to see all nuclear weapons destroyed and the Strategic Defense Initiative technology shared with the whole world; and his enthusiastic belief that Americans live in a melting pot and represent "the brotherhood of man."
