Summary
Tape one of two. Part two of three in this cinŽma vŽritŽ portrait of Juanita and Darrel Buschkoetter, a Nebraska couple struggling to save their farm and their marriage. Part two begins in September 1995 and runs until Christmas of that year: it covers the couple's continuing struggle and new challenges as Juanita resumes her pursuit of a degree and Darrel begins a new job at a large farming operation. This tape opens in September when record lows lead to the earliest frost in nearly fifty years, and the Buschkoetters lose about 25 percent of their crop. Darrel's time is dominated by the harvest and his need to help his father with his operation, a continuing source of tension between Darrel and Juanita as the family feels the lack of outside income. As Audrey and Abby return to Catholic school for the fall, Juanita also begins classes again, a positive change that Darrel admits could, nevertheless, put more pressure on their marriage. Later, Juanita's short trip to attend her sister's shower reveals additional tensions as both Darrel and Juanita see her family's disapproval of the farming life affecting them.
