STRISCIA LA NOTIZIA {STRIP THE NEWS} {ITALIAN} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of programs hosted by Ezio Greggio
and Enzo Iacchetti, dedicated to exposing and jeering at
lies on television. Greggio and Iacchetti begin with a
discussion of a Discovery Channel program about the
discovery of a mammoth in Siberia; they suggest that the
producers fabricated false photos and evidence to
enhance their claim. They then introduce their two
"false" live performers, Maddalena and Elisabetta, who
lip-synch and dance to recorded music. Next, the two
hosts denounce faked political moments on television,
such as a discussion between politician Gian Franco
Funari and a colleague, which has been edited, and
sweetened applause for a political address. They also
demonstrate a number of other televised ruses, including
a presentation by a group of ecologists who are seen
manipulating garbage that they have brought to a site in
order to make the environment appear in greater need of
help. The hosts also laugh at a CNN broadcaster wearing
a gas mask in a combat area while other personnel are
unmasked and at embraces between Bill Clinton and his
wife Hillary and daughter Chelsea, which the hosts
perceive as faked for the cameras. Other falsities
exposed include a raffle drawing that an announcer has
clearly preplanned (the winning number appears on his
pad before it is drawn) and the "feat" of a strong man
holding up a car that is obviously a light shell.
Greggio and Iacchetti also point to the appearances of
some television guests and contestants under a variety
of names and professions. The two conclude that
television abounds with countless lies and laughingly
point to the one true character they know -- a puppet
who closes the program by performing with the two
dancers. Includes some commercials; others deleted.
