CIAO DARWIN 3 {ITALIAN} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of Italian television variety/game shows devoted to a humorous look at human evolution, hosted by Paolo Bonolis and comic Luca Laurenti. The two hosts begin the program by making jokes and entertaining the audience. They then introduce the two teams for this edition of the program -- the Transgressors, led by the transvestite Platinette, and the Moralists, led by Gigi Marzullo. The two groups are composed of diverse members; the Transgressors include porn stars, drag queens, ballet dancers, and tattooed people, and the Moralists include professors, intellectuals, and clerics. The program features debates and contests between these two teams as well as music. Bonolis explains that the debate will be moderated by Mother Nature, whom he introduces; the youthful, scantily clad symbol of the outdoors will pick contestants from each team for each section of the contest at random. The contest begins with a debate between the two captains. The Moralist attacks by saying that transgression is not something aesthetic but rather an attitude of the soul, and he accuses the Transgressors of not understanding this distinction. Mother Nature spins a roulette wheel in order to select the Transgressors and Moralists who will next try to express the two groups' natures. The Transgressors argue that they are themselves -- and that the Moralists are not true to their beings. In return, the Moralists find the Transgressors empty, noting that they act solely under impulse. At the end of each dispute the audience votes for the best group in that section of the contest, and randomly selected members of each team are put to intelligence tests, singing tests, and courage tests. The Transgressors rate higher in the singing arena, while the Moralists prevail in the courage trial, which consists of being tied to the wheel of a large tractor that drags them through dangerous or disgusting substances. The two teams also compete in games, such as a contest to determine who can don a strange oufit of clothing more quickly. After this particular round of activity, the American singing group Delegation performs. In English, the group sings "You and I"; this is followed by a performance, along with Bonolis, of "Stand by Me." Following this, the two teams take audience questions on such topics as what it would be like to be married to one of them. These lead to additional discussion and argument. In the next trial, the space/time test, contestants must recognize the Three Musketeers; dance a minuet; and play several games, one of which is to recover the jewels of Marie Antoinette. At this juncture, the hosts come out in the guise of disco dancers and drag queens to sing and dance, and then the teams are put through another trial, which involves seduction scenes. In the final trial, representatives from both groups are questioned about the past, present, future of the worlds of cinema, and politics. The Moralists are declared the winners. Delegation closes with "Darling, I Think About You." Some commercials deleted. Includes commercials and a public-service announcement.
