I LOVE LUCY: THE DIET (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about the escapades of Lucy Ricardo, a zany redheaded housewife with show business aspirations, her Cuban-born bandleader husband Ricky Ricardo, and their best friends and neighbors Fred and Ethel Mertz. In this installment, after insisting that she does not need to diet because her weight is the same as it was when she married Ricky, Lucy is dismayed to discover that she is indeed twenty-two pounds heavier. When Lucy hears that Ricky's dance partner is leaving his show, she convinces Ricky to let her audition for the spot but finds that the costume does not fit her. Ricky promises her that, if she loses weight in time for the show at the end of the week, she may have the part. With Ethel's help, Lucy exercises heavily and also diets; at a dinner party, the desperately hungry would-be dancer ends up wrestling Ethel and Fred's dog for a bone. With the aid of a "human pressure cooker," Lucy finally loses enough weight to squeeze into the costume, and she and Ricky sing and dance to "Cuban Pete/Sally Sweet." Lucy's strenuous dieting ends up taking a toll, however. Includes commercials and a promo.
