Summary
A documentary profiling four of American Ballet Theatre's male stars -- Jose Manuel Carreno, Angel Corella, Vladimir Malakhov, and Ethan Stiefel -- exploring how each became passionate about dance. The program opens with choreographer Mark Morris discussing the dance he is creating for the four men. Clips throughout the documentary show Morris and the four men rehearsing the performance. Kevin McKenzie, artistic director for the American Ballet Theatre, notes how thrilling it is to have the four men working together for the first time. Malakhov discusses how excited he is to have a dance specifically created for him by Morris. Next, each man's background is explored. Corella visits his homeland of Madrid, Spain, to see his mother Maria and his sister Carmen. Malakhov visits his old company, the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in the Ukraine, to meet with his old teacher Sofia Golonkina. Stiefel visits Wisconsin on his Harley and later attends the premiere in New York City of "Center Stage," a film he starred in. Carreno visits his homeland of Cuba where he performs for Fidel Castro. Next, the four men gather for a playful photo shoot and to discuss the upcoming performance. The documentary ends with a seven-minute dance piece.
