DREAM ON: THE SECOND GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD {SECOND SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a publishing company employee named Martin Tupper whose thoughts become animated through black-and-white clips of old television shows. This episode, the second season premiere, begins as Martin struggles to break up with a three-week fling, Kathleen. Next, Martin goes to the hospital and visits a post-op Eddie, who's just had plastic surgery around his eyes, to discuss what he's "looking" for in a woman. Later, at his office, Martin is told by a taunting Toby that filming of Hollywood's big-budget " The Richard Stone Story" starts the next day. Martin talks with Judith about her being portrayed by the actress Julia Montana, before she invites him to the set. There, Martin meets actor Leon Carp, who is angry that he has been cast as "the putz, Marvin," the character representing Martin. Later, Martin is taken aback by how accurately the movie's set resembles his apartment. Then, Martin meets Julia and is immediately smitten. Next, the pretentious director, Sir Roland Moorecock, appears on set, immediately insulting both Judith and Martin before criticizing Julia's acting. Soon, Martin is privately helping Julia add some realism to her performance and, eventually, the two are kissing. Back at "Martin's apartment," the two get even more intimate. The next day on set, Judith is surprised to see that Martin and Julia are now dating. Later, Julia accompanies Martin to his aunt's funeral, after which they attend a party for the movie, hosted by Sir Roland for cast and crew at his house in the country. There, Julia admits that she likes Martin so much because he's "real people." She invites Martin to follow her to Brazil before leaving him to shmooze with Nick Spencer, who plays Richard in the movie. Then, Sir Roland warns Martin about falling for the actress in the sexually charged Hollywood world. Soon enough, Martin has grown sick of the highly honored Nick. That feeling intensifies when Judith finds herself falling all over the handsome actor. Later, Martin is angered by how much Julia is impressed by Nick. Julia wonders if Martin is getting jealous and, indeed, he struggles to get the actor out of his mind. The next day on set, Martin is furious to see Julia (as Judith) passionately kissing Nick (as Richard), especially when the scene goes forty-seven takes. Elsewhere, Jeremy is deflated after Sir Roland fires him from the film, in which he was playing himself. Consolation is found when Jeremy gets a job on the nudity-filled horror film being lensed in the studio next door. Later, Nick kisses a swooning Judith goodnight. The next day, Martin complains to Judith that Nick is "after" Julia, but Judith tells him there's nothing to worry about: Nick is "after" her. That night, Julia arrives at Martin's for a romantic dinner, with Nick in tow. Later, Martin frets to Eddie that he is losing Julia to Nick, with the two soon headed off to Brazil. That day on set, Martin and Judith catch Julia and Nick making out. Leon later convinces Martin to stand up for himself for once in his life. After Martin tells off Sir Roland, he and Judith both toy -- once again -- with their fantasy love lives, leaving Judith a bit wistful over Nick as Martin sports a farewell lipstick kiss from Julia.
