DREAM ON: POP SECRET (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a publishing company employee named Martin Tupper whose thoughts become animated through black-and-white clips of old television shows. In this episode, Martin's father Mickey surprises him with a visit to his office. The divorced Mickey reveals that he's moving back to New York from Florida. Toby sets Mickey up with her mother, Angie, and Martin and Toby accompany them to dinner. There, the crude Angie manages to hit it off with Mickey and the two leave together. The next day, however, Toby is angry that Mickey didn't try to sleep with Angie. Some time later, Martin visits Mickey at the apartment where he is living with his friend, Roger. Martin is surprised to find that his father has become a beer-swilling couch potato. Martin offers to let Mickey move in with him, which Mickey declines. The next day, Eddie speculates that Mickey and Roger could be lovers but Martin won't believe it. That night, Martin again visits Mickey and Roger, trying to notice any signs of homosexual living arrangements. Eventually, an increasingly alarmed Martin tells Judith that he thinks Mickey is gay, feeling that Roger is too familiar with his dad. That night, Martin confronts his father on the issue and Mickey denies being gay. However, a decidedly confused Mickey admits to sleeping with Roger, and liking it. Taken aback, Martin then tries to come to terms with his father's new lifestyle, and its repercussions for them both.
