DREAM ON: THE COURTSHIP OF MARTIN'S FATHER {FIFTH SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a publishing company employee named Martin Tupper whose thoughts become animated through black-and-white clips of old television shows. In this episode, Martin is highly impressed by an older fiction writer, Wade. Later, Martin notices that his current squeeze, Lisa, has a naval piercing. He also finds that he is unable to handle her kinky ways, upsetting her. Then, Martin's father Mickey arrives at the door, wanting to stay there after splitting with Roger. The next day, Martin goes to the movies with Judith and her new boy-toy Timmy, complaining about his father as they wait in line. That evening, Martin tries to talk with his father, learning that Mickey caught Roger with another man. Martin convinces his dad to go out and try to meet other men. Later, at a gay bowling alley, while trying to pick up men for his dad, Martin runs into Wade. Instantly, Mickey and Wade hit it off. When Mickey returns home much later, Martin tries to give his father a safe sex lecture. Some time later, Martin brings his latest date, Sally, back to his apartment. However, the apartment is already occupied by Mickey and Wade, instantly ruining Martin's date. The next day, Mickey provides more trouble for Martin when he convinces Wade to make the manly character in his series of novels into a homosexual. Martin convinces Wade that his character can't be gay. Wade agrees, but realizes he can't be out of the closet either. He then tells Mickey that he's returning to his wife and family. Martin and Mickey subsequently argue, with Martin verbalizing his feelings that he wishes Mickey weren't gay. Mickey admits the same, leading to a genuine breakthrough in the father-son relationship.
