Summary
One in this series of current events documentary programs, hosted by Edward R. Murrow. Murrow presents a two-part series on atomic energy. This first part demonstrates how a nuclear reactor works, how it "goes critical" and produces electric power for peacetime purposes. Murrow interviews Admiral Hyman Rickover on the necessity for finding alternatives to the disappearing mineral sources of energy. Part one closes with Murrow discussing the need for the encouragement of science with Dr. Edward Teller. (Part two aired on March 30, 1958. See T77:0151.)
